Hello,

Have you found that you are very interested in the Civil War era but have no idea what you could do?  After all, it was all about the war and fighting and the soldiers, right?  What did women do?  What did civilian men do?

Ladies, is your husband thinking about joining a Civil War military group but you feel like a third wheel, not knowing what to do?  Do you even know if you have an interest in this time period?  I would like to encourage you to give the 7th New Jersey, Company D civilian division a try.  There is nothing as wonderful as participating in a time period that is seldom remembered and even less portrayed.  As a civilian woman, you would have the opportunity to learn and teach about a time that was very different from today.

Are you a man, looking to portray a Gentleman but not necessarily a soldier?  We would love to have you here.

Civilian men are under portrayed in our hobby and you would have the opportunity to show "modern" men what it is to be a Gentleman.

Having an interest in a time that is not your own feels both exciting and overwhelming all at the same time.  If you have an interest but don't feel that you can participate because you don't have anything to wear, fear not, we have women's loaner clothing you can use so you can see if you would like to participate.  If you do, then what you purchase/sew can all be discussed and planned to maximize your portrayal and minimize your budget.

I hope you choose to at least give this time period a try.  Come and enjoy the opportunity to participate in a hobby that will allow you to be with your loved one but not necessarily in the same space.  Enjoy time with others who enjoy this hobby and are willing to mentor/teach you about a simpler time when "men were men and women were women" and maybe find out just what that means.

I look forward to meeting you and sharing what I know with you and learning from you.  Feel free to contact me at myall.forHim@verizon.net and lets talk.

Sincerely,

Sandra Grant

Civilian Coordinator
